Exercise Tips

A man riding a bike towards a beachPlaying a sport, going to the gym or doing other types of exercise may not always be possible. You are following a diet that always takes planning and time to prepare. That’s why, on this page, we suggest simple ways for you to exercise as part of your everyday life, to optimize your health and weight management.

Try to incorporate some of the following everyday activities into your daily schedule —

When Driving:

  1. Walk to stores and other places instead of driving, whenever possible.
  2. Bike to work one or two days a week.
  3. Walk to the bus stop or train station, and use public transportation to get to work.
  4. If taking the bus or subway, get off one stop early and walk the rest of the way.
  5. Park the car a fair distance from the entrance of shops and walk, rather than parking right out front.
  6. Wash and vacuum the car yourself instead of taking it to a car wash.

At Work:

  1. Take the stairs instead of the elevator.
  2. Use half of your lunch break for a quick walk, even if it is only 10-15 minutes.
  3. Stretch at your desk.
  4. When you need to talk to a colleague, don't use the phone or internal email - get up from your desk and walk over to them.
  5. If your job involves sitting at a desk all day, make sure you get up and walk around for a few minutes every hour.

At Home:

  1. Push the vacuum and mop around, a great way to burn calories!
  2. Listen to your favorite music, or the radio, and dance around the house.
  3. Play actively with your children.
  4. Walk the dog more often, or make your usual walk 10 minutes longer.
  5. Get into your garden. Mow, rake leaves and get some planting done.
  6. Incorporate a few more physical activities into your family's leisure time; for example, you could take the children to the park or kick a ball around the backyard.

Out and About:

  1. Ignore the elevators and take the stairs.
  2. In shopping centers, take the stairs instead of the escalators.
  3. Walk up the escalators instead of just riding them.

Remember: everyday activities, such as housework and gardening, can help burn calories. And research suggests that maintaining an active lifestyle is the key to good health and weight management!
